Everyone strives to be different and therefore loves customization. But do you want to buy a custom made board that often turns out to be a surprise? Or trust in a tried-and-tested shape from a brand that has consistently been at the forefront of board development with over 40 years of experience?

Your search is over because here comes the GRIP D/LAB board range.

At DUOTONE, only genuine game changer products qualify for the D/LAB logo. So what is so special about these boards that they become the first D/LAB products under DUOTONE Windsurfing?

For the last 3 years, our Product Manager Boards Dani Aeberli and our QC Specialist Vasin Siritho have been working on a new technology that is exclusive to DUOTONE. We call them CUSTOM CNC SANDWICH .

We use a construction that is 100% identical to the highest quality custom made boards. Instead of using a mold to shape the EPS foam core into its final shape, each EPS block is CNC milled. This ensures maximum precision and saves weight.

As with the high-end custom board manufacturers, the big advantage lies in the workmanship. We call this SINGLE PROCESS TECHNOLOGY and it is the key to our industry-leading weight-to-strength ratio.

Instead of combining steps to save time and money, each step follows its own process. For example, instead of connecting the PVC sandwich to the EPS core in a single operation, we vacuum seal the top and bottom PVC panels separately on the EPS core.

In addition, instead of standard 3mm PVC elements for the entire panel, we also use thicker and thinner PVC panels according to the load ranges, making the overall structure lighter yet more stable.

For all D/LAB boards we use our most sophisticated construction, which consists of more than 60 individual parts and components (almost 20% more parts than our SLS Premium Sandwich Construction).

Additionally, we use the highest quality composite materials currently available.

All carbon fibers used are a mix of high-strength and high-modulus carbon qualities, depending on the individual requirements of each board area. Our high-modulus carbon can also be found in high-end products such as airplanes, Formula 1 cars or our Platinum SLS masts, forks and extensions.
Innegra is a high modulus propylene with unmatched tensile and impact strength. It offers similar tensile strength to Kevlar but is significantly stiffer. Additionally, Innegra is the best composite fiber for preventing dents.
We use our exclusive high-tech S_GLASS+ with a particularly high silicon dioxide content, which offers significantly higher tensile strength and 10-20% higher stiffness.
And finally, we use our exclusive DUOTONE SENTEX resin impregnated with silicon nanospheres, which helps us reduce weight even further without compromising durability.

Instead of using a similar layup for all boards, we use a DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC FLEX CONSTRUCTION for all D/LAB boards, as the requirements of different disciplines (wave, freestyle, freeride, racing) and conditions are very different.

Racing boards are designed for maximum performance (explosive acceleration and V-max). Therefore, these boards need to be as stiff as possible. In order to achieve this uncompromising rigidity, we use a very high carbon content in all FALCON D/LAB layups.
However, with wave boards a certain amount of "give" is essential, as these boards are very short and with an all-carbon layup could become too stiff and therefore uncontrollable. That's why the GRIP D/LAB boards are equipped with a higher Innegra and S_GLASS+ proportion. These high-tech composite materials have significantly higher tensile strength and avoid fractures after high landings. To still achieve excellent "springback" that makes the board more responsive and has a huge impact on acceleration, we use unidirectional carbon reinforcements in the longitudinal direction.

Last but not least, every single board size has an individual layup. This is the final stage of individualization in the design.

The result speaks for itself, because the D/LAB boards are approx. 500 grams lighter than our SLS boards and up to a full kilo lighter than other series boards. And it's the first time that a production board can compete with even the lightest custom-made boards available.

And all of this without compromising on durability, because we always follow our core motto LIGHT DONE RIGHT.

Please note that at least in the first year the quantities will be strictly limited - just like with a real custom board. For this reason, only the most popular sizes GRIP 4 and GRIP 3 will be available in D/LAB technology.

Our GRIP D/LAB boards are constantly evolving in design and construction to ensure we are always at the forefront of development with our over 40 years of experience. We call them World Cup Wave Boards because they're built to handle the best of the best in all sorts of spots around the globe, from jump-oriented side-on conditions like Pozo to down-the-line groundwell -Conditions like Hookipa.

The most important question you need to ask yourself now is which fin configuration best suits your personal riding style:

The GRIP 4 with its quad fin configuration gives you maximum drive and grip for committed rail-to-rail turns, even in XXL waves
The GRIP 3 has slightly better acceleration thanks to an efficient rocker with a lower drag entry, which is particularly helpful in jumping conditions. The thruster fin configuration allows for earlier tail release for tighter/slashy turns, even in less than ideal waves.
