Super_Hero D/LAB

SUPER_HERO D/LAB – let's create the sail of your dreams! Imagine a world where there are no restrictions on sail design and construction. What would the sail of your dreams look like?

For 2025, we have restructured our sail range according to the materials and constructions used (see D/LAB vs. SLS vs. Originals below for more details).

As a result, the SUPER_HERO SLS is now called SUPER_HERO D/LAB. It is simply the biggest evolution of a wave sail in our history, which deserves the D/LAB label. Because for us, D/LAB stands for the maximum that is technically achievable and gives a glimpse into the future.

3 things set the SUPER_HERO D/LAB apart from all other sails:

1. Unprecedented wind range

Incredibly but true, the wind range is extended in both directions, meaning it glides earlier but also offers more draft stability. To give you a better idea, with the original SUPER_HERO a typical quiver is 5.3 - 4.7 - 4.2. With the SUPER_HERO D/LAB you can cover the same wind range with 5.0 - 4.2!

2. Ultralight ON THE WATER

Physical weight is only one side of the coin. As usual, the real truth is on the water. Sailing weight describes how light the sail feels in your hands when surfing. It is a combination of the physical weight, but more importantly the dynamic weight of the sail. That is why we are only interested in the so-called sailing weight. A responsive/dynamic sail feels lighter in your hands. On the other hand, a spongy sail feels heavier in your hands and thus "eats up" a large part of the physical weight advantage.

Technora/Dyneema and Kevlar have high tear strength but are not particularly stiff (only similar stiffness to the polyester monofilm). Therefore, when the thickness is reduced to save weight (membrane, laminate or composite sails) these sails tend to become quite spongy and sluggish. This sponginess results in a less efficient sail with a smaller wind range (especially when overpowered).

Carbon, on the other hand, is about 3-4 times stiffer than Technora/Dyneema and Kevlar. With our INTELLIGENT CARBON XPLY CONSTRUCTION we have found the ideal balance. The CARBON XPLY in the highly stressed clew, top and foot areas guarantees unrivalled low stretch and power transmission. The slightly more (re)flexing Regular XPly in the body panel, however, prevents the power from becoming uncontrollable. This makes the SUPER_HERO D/LAB extremely responsive and dynamic. In combination with the very low weight, this results in the lowest possible sailing weight. There is no sail that feels lighter in the hands than the SUPER_HERO D/LAB!

3. Ultralight without compromising on durability

The simple and common way to reduce weight is to reduce the film/laminate thickness. Unfortunately, reducing the film thickness has a disproportionate impact on wear resistance and durability. For this reason, reducing weight the easy way by reducing the film thickness was never an option for us - because all our products are developed and designed according to our motto "LIGHT DONE RIGHT".

For the SUPER_HERO D/LAB we use the same film/laminate thickness as our bomb-prove original SUPER_HERO. The hot-melt bonding that connects the panels is much stronger than traditional sewing (in fact, the hot-melt bonding is even stronger than the material itself). Hard to believe, but experience has shown that the SUPER_HERO D/LAB is even more durable than the original SUPER_HERO. We back this up with our industry-leading 5 YEAR WARRANTY that no other brand can match.

When you use the SUPER_HERO SLS for the first time, it feels like your body is merging with the sail and you are truly connected to the waves. The lightning fast reflex reaction without losing control is a real game changer, so much so that our entire Pro Team will be using the SUPER_HERO D/LAB in 2025.

Please note: After intensive UV exposure, the hot melt bond may take on a yellowish color. Extensive laboratory and water tests confirm that this is purely aesthetic and has no influence on the mechanical properties/strength. Therefore, this is excluded from the guarantee.
